Shri K. Paul Thomas, MD & CEO, ESAF Small Finance Bank, fondly recalls his meeting with Shri Ratan Tata during his time at Harvard. This moment brings back memories of my personal meeting wi...th him at Harvard Business School, Boston, USA, in 2014, during my time as a student of the Advanced Leadership Program I attended with Dr N. Jeyaseelan. His humility left an indelible impression on me. Beyond being a nation-builder, he will always be remembered for his deep concern for the common man. I must acknowledge that my discussion with him on social entrepreneurship further fuelled my aspirations to promote inclusive business models. Some of the invaluable lessons I learned from this remarkable leader include the belief that excellence is not just an output but an attitude to be cultivated; that ethical business practices are the only path to sustainable success; and that true innovation both adds value to the common man and drives financial and social inclusion. His message of taking consistent action in pursuit of a clear vision and growth driven by purpose will always resonate with me. ESAF’s servant leadership values and business ethics have always been inspired by this great visionary, and I urge all aspiring business leaders to embrace his values and contribute to shaping a brighter future. May his soul rest in peace.
